Lense Conditions
Retained Lens Fragments:
Pieces of the natural eye lens that fall backward into the vitreous cavity (the jelly-like center of the eye) during cataract removal. This occurs in about 0.2% to 1.5% of cataract surgeries.
Dislocated Intraocular Lens (IOL):
The artificial lens placed during surgery moves out of its normal position (slipping backward into the vitreous or forward into the anterior chamber) due to weak or broken supporting fibers called zonules, capsular damage, or trauma.
Aphakia:
The state of having no lens inside the eye, which causes severe hyperopia (extreme farsightedness), loss of accommodation (focusing ability), and a strong need for high-powered corrective lenses or a secondary IOL implant.
